Born in Meda, Italy in 1950. He graduated in architecture from Milan Polytechnic and opened his studio in 1972. Citterio originally focused on industrial design but later expanded into architecture and interior design into his practice. He has numerous designs in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Pompidou Centre in Paris, as well as several other museums worldwide.
Citterio has worked in collaboration with manufacturing companies such as Ansorg, B&B Italia, Maxalto, Flexform, Flos, Hackmann, Hansgrohe, Inda, Pozzi e Ginori, Kartell, Arclinea and Vitra Citterio. He is also well known for designing architecture in association with Terry Dwan throughout Europe and Japan and later in 1999 he founded Antonio Citterio and Partners with Patricia Viel - the company is a multidisciplinary practice for architectural design, industrial design and graphics. Recognised projects include the Bulgari Hotels & Resorts in Milan, Bali, Tokyo.
